Eco-Schools become partners with the Ministry for Gozo
The Ministry for Gozo and Nature Trust Malta have signed an agreement to cooperate in the eco-Schools programme for the coming three years. The signing took place in the presence of a number of children attending Victoria primary school.
This agreement aims to improve the collaboration between the two entities and to enhance the implementation of various environmental initiatives as well as to improve environmental education with regards to sustainable development within primary and secondary schools in Gozo. This through the eko-Skola programme and other programmes such as the Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) and Learning about Forests (LEAF).
The Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono who presided over the signing of the contract, said that the Ministry intends to prepare a Programme for Environment Education and Sustainable Development for Gozitan school children. The investment effected through this programme has wide perspectives because it will not only affect the students but it also has the potential of benefitting other generations. Through the Eko-Skola's programme citizens are enticed to adhere to environmental good practices that safeguard the environment as well as society. Minister Debono concluded by saying that eco-Gozo is not only a vision but a reality that has started to move in the right direction in order to make Gozo an ecological island.
Through this signing, the Ministry for Gozo has joined various other entities who are partners with Nature Trust Malta and include the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, the Ministry for Education, Employment and the Family, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism, the Environment and Culture, HSBC Bank Malta plc and WasteServ Malta Ltd.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Mr Francis Sullivan, Environment Consultant within HSBC International, who signed a similar contract with Nature Trust Malta on behalf of HSBC. Mr Vincent Attard, Executive President of Nature Trust Malta and National Coordinator of the Foundation for Environment Education singed on behalf of Nature Trust Malta.
