Second call for local councils funding scheme issued
The Ministry for Gozo has launched the second call in relation to the funding scheme for eco-Gozo projects by Local Councils. Local Councils who have not benefited under the first call or those who did not benefit from the maximum grant off €70,000 under the first call, may apply for funding of projects which will enhance the sustainability of their locality. These local councils may apply to implement projects in their locality and be directly engaged in the implementation of the eco-Gozo project, and more specifically in the short-term measures identified in the document "Eco-Gozo: A better Gozo Proposed action 2010-2012". Projects must be implemented by the second week of July 2012.
Under the first call, a total of €660,558 were granted to 13 projects which will be administered by 11 Local Councils and Administrative Committees. These projects include building of rubble walls, conservation of rural and characteristic areas, restoration of historical and old buildings, and rehabilitation of promenades. Other environment related projects include the cleaning of valleys, better use of energy saving lighting and the replacement of vehicles with eco-friendly ones. All these projects will contribute towards the implementation of one or more of the 80-measures found in the eco-Gozo short-term action plan.
