Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo.  She explained how this study, which will update another study conducted ten years ago, will benefit from a funding of around €49,000 from the Ministry for Gozo.  Minister Giovanna Debono stated that in the year dedicated to Voluntary Work by the European Commission, the Ministry for Gozo is recognising the work done by this voluntary organisation towards Gozitan and Maltese youths.  The Minister explained how this is one of the various initiatives being undertaken for the implementation of the eco-Gozo action plan 2010-2012.

This study, which will be conducted by Dr Andrew Azzopardi, has the aim to analyse, suggest, propose and plan strategies on the basis of which future action can be taken to the benefit of these youths.  This project will not only update the previous study but will also give particular attention to new social issues  and bad habits present in youths and children apart from those related to tobacco, drugs and alcohol.  People aged between 10 and 30 will be the target audience for this research, while other key persons and institutions will also be asked for their assistance under the coordination of Oasi Foundation.  During the press conference, Dr Azzopardi illustrated how this research will be conducted while he remarked how this study will enhance the global objective of eco-Gozo by aiming for a sustainable development in the socio-economic areas, apart from the environment.

Through the eco-Gozo scheme for NGOs, a total of 37 NGOs will benefit from a total funding of €1.24 million.  All these NGOs will accomplish 38 different projects that implement one or more measures listed in the eco-Gozo action plan.
