Ministry for Gozo finances publication on obesity

Through the eco-Gozo scheme for NGOs, the Ministry for Gozo is granting around €19,000 to the Gozo Youth Football Association which operates within the Gozo Football Association, in order to publish a booklet on obesity. This booklet will be distributed to all Gozitan households in the coming days.

This booklet includes information ranging from statistics on obesity to facts on how this problem can be controlled, in particular through physical exercise and a balanced diet. The publication Defeating Obesity by Sports was launched during a press conference addressed by the Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono. The Minister explained how this initiative is one of 38 that have been or are currently being implemented by various Gozitan NGOs under the eco-Gozo scheme. The aim of this scheme is in line with the social sustainable principles found in the eco-Gozo action plan 2010-2012 where it promotes a healthy lifestyle, thus resulting in a healthier society. The Minister for Gozo stated how this publication meets perfectly with the criterion of promoting good healthy practices, especially with regards to a healthy diet and a more active lifestyle. "This booklet will be of interest not only to children and youths but to the whole Gozitan society so as to encourage more physical exercise which plays a very important role in decreasing obesity", stated the Minister for Gozo.

This booklet includes information ranging from statistics on obesity to facts on how this problem can be controlled, in particular through physical exercise and a balanced diet.

The GFA and the Gozo Football Club (which also operates within the GFA) will both benefit from another financial aid amounting to €50,000 each where two new water reservoirs will be built at the Gozo stadium, with the aim of storing rain water for the use of the stadium.
