Ministry for Gozo financing project by Arka Foundation
Through the eco-Gozo scheme for Gozitan Non Governmental Organisations, the Ministry for Gozo is granting ¬50,000 to the Arka Foundation, for the replacement of an old generator with a new one which emits less air and noise pollution and for the replacement of light fixtures with energy efficient ones.
During her visit at the Arka Respite Centre in Ghajnsielem the Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, had the opportunity to meet the management of the Arka Foundation who explained how the eco-Gozo funds are helping the organization in operating in a more environmentally friendly manner.
The Minister Giovanna Debono explained how the objectives of this initiative are in line with some of the measures found in the eco-Gozo action plan. It is for this reason, that the Arka Foundation is benefiting from the scheme issued by the Ministry for Gozo through which a total of 38 projects by 37 NGOs are being implemented. She expressed her gratitude to the Arka Foundation for the initiative undertaken with the aim of improving the quality of life of all those attending this centre and those living in their vicinities. She also said that this scheme is an appreciation tforall the work being done by Gozitan NGOs, also in the light of the fact that this year is the European Year of Volunteering by the European Commission.
The new generator will decrease noise by 15dB (A) in comparison with the old generator, while 8354 watts per hour will be saved by the installation of the new light fixtures.
Through the two eco-Gozo schemes, one for NGOs and the other for Local Councils, a total of 51 projects are being given a financial aid of around ¬1.9 million.
