The Ministry for Gozo finances publication by the Gozo Philatelic Society
Through the eco-Gozo scheme for Non Governmental Organisations, the Ministry of Gozo is financing the Isle of Joy, a publication of 64 pages in colour that includes photos and information on Gozitan sites which where used on all the stamps of Malta from the beginning of the last century. A total of ¬1,650 was granted to the Society to implement this initiative.
This publication was distributed to the members of the Society during the inauguration of the Annual Philatelic Exhibition which is organised every year by the Gozo Philatelic Society and held in the Exhibition Hall of the Ministry of Gozo in Victoria. The publication which is in English has 20 chapters and includes also a section of photos and information on all localities in Gozo. Through the Isle of Joy, Gozo will be indirectly promoted indirectly due to the fact that the philately of Malta is much sought by foreigners.
In her message in the same publication, the Minister of Gozo, Hon. Giovanna Debono, commended the Gozo Philatelic Society for this initiative and for its work over the years in promoting this hobby among members of society and Gozitan people. She showed acknowledgment for the fact that Society members visit schools in Gozo and talk to students with the aim of promoting philately. The Minister also made reference to the publication of this society which is published every three months and the organisation of an annual exhibition.
The Minister Giovanna Debono said that through this publication, the Society will not only be promoting the hobby of philately, but will be also promoting the small island of Gozo. She added that this book will be welcomed not only by philately enthusiasts, but also by those who have Gozo close to their heart.
The Annual Exhibition of philately organised from this Society will remain open till next Saturday, 19th November between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturday from 9.00 an till noon.
