Annual seminar and presentation of certificates of ekoskola in Gozo

int ecosTwo primary schools from the Gozo College were presented with the Green Flag award during the annual ekoskola seminar held at Ghajnsielem Primary School.

The Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono presented the second Green Flag to Xewkija Primary School and a certificate for the successful participation in the HSBC Eco-Schools Climate Initiative Community Project.  The G'ajnsielem Primary School was honoured with the Green Flag award for the first time while the Girls Secondary School was awarded the Silver Award.

While congratulating these schools for the honours received, the Minister for Gozo expressed her satisfaction that Gozitan students are participating in the eco-School program together with 8 million students from around the world.  She stated that good environment practices and other initiatives taken in schools harmonise with the eco-Gozo vision.  She referred also to the eco-Gozo scheme for schools which will be launched in the coming weeks through which every Gozitan school will be able to benefit from a maximum of ¬3,000 in order to implement projects for the benefit of students in their respective schools.

This seminar was also addressed by Mr Vincent Attard, Coordinator of the Foundation for Environment Education in Malta (FEE), the National Coordinator Professor Paul Pace, Maria Mallia: representative for WasteServ who gave a presentation on a guide-booklet on the European Waste Reduction Week as well as Claire Zammit.  The program included the singing of the eco-School anthem and other songs from Ghajnsielem Primary School and students from the year four and five students within the same school.
