Project by the Scouts Association financed by the Ministry for Gozo
The Gozo Scouts Association is benefitting from a financing of around ¬29.000 from the Ministry for Gozo which funds are being used for the building of a water cistern in their headquarters at the Victoria Scout Group and also for the purchasing of separations bins to be used in the same building. This project is being financed through the eco-Gozo scheme for Non Governmental Organisations, related to the eco-Gozo action plan 2010-2012.
The Ministry for Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono visited the Headquarters of the Victoria Scout Group where she met with the officials and other members of this group while also having the opportunity to witness the ongoing works on the cistern, which are in an advanced stage. While appreciating all the work being done by this organisation among children and youth, the Minister for Gozo expressed her satisfaction towards this project of water conservation and harvesting of rain water. She added that responsible use of water is essential for the governments efforts to transform Gozo into an ecological island. The Minister also reminded of the program of works carried out by the Ministry for Gozo where 8 water catchment areas in various valleys were cleaned.
The Minister Giovanna Debono stated that in Gozo other projects related to the water conservations are underway. These include the building of 8 water cisterns built by NGOs and Local Councils through the two eco-Gozo schemes; the restoration of cisterns in government properties and building of new cisterns in several projects in Gozo.
Through these two eco-Gozo schemes, one for Non Governmental Organisations and the other for Local Councils, a total of 51 projects are contributing to the sustainable development in Gozo, with a total of financial aid of around ¬2million.
