Ministry for Gozo finances projects by Don Bosco Oratory
A total of ¬50.000 was granted by the Ministry for Gozo under the ecoGozo scheme directed at Gozitan Non Governmental Organisations. The projects, which were inaugurated by the Hon Giovanna Debono Minister for Gozo were completed by the Don Bosco Oratory in Victoria Gozo which included the installation of a passenger lift and the changing of light fixtures.
During the inauguration of these projects, Minister Debono, expressed her satisfaction at such an initiative taken by Fr Effie Masini and his collaborators at the Oratorju Don Bosco. The Minister pointed out that these projects address both the environmental and social issues related to the ecoGozo vision. The Minister stated that the Oratory will now offer better accessibility to children, youths and Gozitan families that attend religious, cultural and sport activities in the building which is now more sustainable.
These projects will help to reduce the carbon footprint of the building with the final aim of rendering the Youth Centre more sustainable and also improving accessibility to persons with disability, elderly and mothers, said the Hon. Debono. She expressed her satisfaction that through these facilities, the whole island will benefit while pointing out that these projects will in turn continue to help Gozitan community.
The project for the modernisation of the Oratory football ground was one of 37 Non Governmental Organisations in Gozo which benefitted from the ecoGozo financial scheme for NGOs for the implementation of 38 projects. Through this scheme for NGOs and another one dedicated to Local Councils and Administrative Committees, Gozo is benefitting from an investment of ¬2 million for various projects across Gozo. The inauguration of this project coincided with the Feast of Don Bosco, Patron Saint of children and youths.
The Ministry for Gozo was also instrumental in the Oratory football ground launched in 2008 which has been extremely beneficial for activities organised by the organisation in recent years. This assistance by the Ministry for Gozo in 2008 made it possible for the football ground to be equipped with a synthetic turf surface, new facilities for 7-a-side games plus two pitches for 5-a-side games have been included, installation of new lighting along with the refurbishment of all sanitary facilities and dressing rooms.
