Għajnsielem benefits from another project financed by the Ministry for Gozo
Major embellishment in Il-pjazza tad-Dehra: a distinctive zone in the Gozitan village of Ghajnsielem, is possible thanks to funding from another scheme issued by the Ministry for Gozo.
The Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, visited the ongoing works on this site. Mayor Frans Cauchi explained how through such funding, the Council is restoring the site known as l-G'ajn tal-&asselin. Reconstruction of arches, which originally formed part of the springs entrance, will provide space for a belvedere where one can view the picturesque panorama of the valley and the islands channel.
The Minister for Gozo expressed her satisfaction at the efforts taken by the G'ajnsielem Local Council for the up-keep of a localitywhich is the official entrance into Gozo for all those who visit the island. She explained how this project by the local council is in line with other projects coordinated by the Ministry for Gozo in order to embellish Mgarr harbour and its surroundings. All of these projects will Â be beneficial to Gozitans and all those visiting the island.
G'ajnsielem Local Councils project includes the cleaning of Wied Simirat a valley in the area of Bor! G'arib Street which leads to the main square known as Pjazza tad-Dehra and the area of TaPassi recently turned into the yearly Christmas attraction Betlehem fG'ajnsielem. This clean-up will ensure better rain water harvesting while reducing the possibility of flooding. The local council is also engaging an electric truck, thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, explained how the G'ajnsielem Local Council along withanother 51 localities in Gozo have benefitted from special funding under the ecoGozo action 2010-2012. All these projects, for a total funding of ¬2milion, could be made possible through two schemes issued by the Ministry for Gozo, one for Local Councils and the other for Non Governmental Organisations. G'ajnsielem Local Council applied for the second call of the ecoGozo scheme for Local Council which was open for Local Councils who had not benefitted from the first call.
