Kercem and Marsalforn benefitting from another Eco Gozo scheme issued by the Ministry for Gozo.

“Amongst various works and projects undergone last year, 5 kilometres of rubble walls were restored and built by those Local Councils, Administrative Committees and Non Governmental Organisations who participated in the schemes issued by the Ministry for Gozo as part of the ecoGozo action plan 2010-2012”.

Kercem and Marsalforn benefitting from another Eco Gozo scheme issued by the Ministry for Gozo.This was stated by the Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono when visiting two villages: Kercem and Marsalforn, which benefited from these ecoGozo schemes.Minister Debono expressed her satisfaction at the achievements of both councils to improve and further embellish their locality.  She also explained that these projects, along with similar ones by other entities, are also crucial at addressing soil erosion, a problem which the Ministry has been addressing through the ecoGozo Action Plan..

Details of the projects where given during these visits where ecoGozo funding made possible li construction of new rubble walls in Triq ix-Xaghri, Triq Xuxa, Triq Santa Katerina tal-Qabbieża and Triq il-Kalandrijiet at Ta’ Kercem.  New energy efficient lighting systems were installed at Triq Xuxa, Triq San Girgor, Triq Ġużeppi Briffa, Triq San Pietru u San Pawl and Triq il-Kalandrijiet.  In Marsalforn, rubble walls were built in Triq Qbajjar and Wied l-Infern.

Other localities that participated in this scheme and managed to attain funding to rebuild  rubble walls are : Xaghra, Nadur and Santa Lucija.

Through the ecoGozo scheme for Gozitan Local Councils and Non Governmental Organisations, a total of 51 projects have been implemented. While many have been completedsome will be finalised in the coming weeksfor a total investment by the Ministry for Gozo of €2 million.
