More projects for a better quality of life in Zebbug Gozo

The Santa Marija Philharmonic Society premises in Zebbug Gozo has been equipped with more environmental friendly facilities, thus offering a better quality of life.  This project involves the financing of ¬47,000 through a scheme by the Ministry for Gozo for Non Governmental Organisations for the implementation of projects related to the ecoGozo Action Plan 2010-2012.

The Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono accompanied by the administration of the Society, amongst which President Mr. George Cefai, visited the premises where various works including the building of a water reservoir, installation of energy saving lighting system and installation of a lift were done.

Minister Debono expressed her satisfaction and appreciation for such an initiative taken by this Society which is implementing projects related to the environmental and social aspects within the community.  She stated how through these projects the Santa Marija Philarmonic Society will improve social inclusion as a result of better accessibility while offering a more sustainable environment to all members, volunteers and all those visiting this building. Minister for Gozo also said that the installation of a lift for 8 persons will provide more accessibility to persons with special needs, elderly and pregnant women while the other projects deal with the reduction of carbon emissions.

She also referred to other projects being done in this locality and which are being financed by the Ministry for Gozo, amongst which the building of around 1,400 m3 of rubble-walls being done by the Local Council in Zebbug Street and Rabat Street.

The ecoGozo schemes for Local Councils and NGOs are implementing around sixty projects with a total investment of around ¬2.5 million where not only the Gozitan community is benefiting but also Maltese and tourists who are visiting our island.  These projects cover various socio-economic sectors, including the environment, social, economic and cultural aspects in Gozo.
