Eco-truck at Għajnsielem Local Council from the Ministry for Gozo
Through the ecoGozo scheme for Gozitan Local Councils, the Ghajnsielem Local Council has purchased an eco-truck which will be utilised for general works undertaken in the locality. This electric truck will contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in Ghajnsielem.
The Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, explained how the procurement of this truck is part of a holistic project which is being implemented by the Ghajnsielem Local Council through the ecoGozo scheme for Local Councils, and which has benefitted from the maximum financial aid of €70,000. Other initiatives include the building of l-Għajn tal-Ħasselin where the first commemorative stone was laid in the beginning of December and the cleaning of Simirat valley. She also explained how this project addresses various targets set by the ecoGozo vision amongst which the environment, culture and identity. Minister Debono expressed her satisfaction for the work done by the council for the locality and for the collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo in the various projects implemented in this locality.
During the last years the Ghajnsielem Local Council continued its work for the improvement of the residents’ quality of life. Some of the main projects include the building of the civic centre which incorporates the council’s offices, a health centre, a library and a Police station. This project compliments other projects done in this locality in the last years which include the embellishment and reconstruction of Mgarr Road, the building of a new terminal and investment and renovation in the Wistin Camilleri School. Work is also currently underway in the Zewwieqa Waterfront.
Two works of art were also installed in Ghajnsielem as part of the Public Art scheme launched by the Ministry for Gozo. Merħba bil-Fjuri, a mosaic mural by Gozitan artist Mary Portelli is found at the Mgarr Terminal while Ambjent Naturali, work on steel and copper by Gozo resident Paolo Giordanella is located near the heliport area.
