Talk about Permaculture for the general public
A talk about Permaculture was held for the general public on Wednesday 27th February 2013 at the Gozo College San Lawrenz Primary and was delivered by Mr. Peppi Gauci from the PermaCulture Research Foundation Malta. It was financed by the Directorate for EcoGozo and Regional Development within the Ministry for Gozo through the ecoGozo scheme for educational institutions.
The term Permaculture refers to the bond between ideas of sustainability based on scientific studies and the designs from nature. This is a positive and rather new approach towards the problems societies are facing. Its main principles focus on taking care of the earth by using renewable resources, recycling, minimising waste, building up soils rather than depleting them and conserving water. It teaches people to observe, understand the environment and become more ecologically aware and responsible. Moreover, it helps in planning and growing fruits and vegetables for a bigger and healthier harvest and in reducing the work involved.
