Arbor day celebrated in Gozo
Children attending Xag'ra Primary School together with their teachers organised a programme of activities on Arbor Day. Several other authorites from the Eductional Division joined this celebration, primarily the Hands-on-Farming and the eco-school teachers.
The Ministry for Gozo who attended this celebration encouraged more students to safeguard more our environment. She explained that this concern for the environment is also part and parcel of the eco-Gozo vision, amongst which the protecion of the rural environment and the planting of more trees. The Minister mentioned the creation of a new garden in Marsalforn as one example of how the eco-Gozo vision is being implimented.
The Minister also referred to the eco-Gozo resource pack which was handed to teachers in order to help more students understand the subjects related to the eco-Gozo vision. She encouraged students to adopt good environmental practices, even at home.
This activity was also commemorated with the planting of trees by the Minister for Gozo and students. Other students had the opportunity to plant endemic plants through the collaboration of the Hands-on-farming representatives. This was the sixth consecutive year that this celebration was organised with the aim to promote even more the importance and relevance of trees.
In the meantime, the Eco-Gozo Regional Development Directorate had prepared and distributed calendars to all primary, secondary and post-secondary students. These calendars convey positive messages to users which can also serve as bookmarks.
